That BioWare and LucasArts MMORPG announcement thing is going right now. It’s official and it’ll be called Star Wars: The Old Republic. 1UP has the entire live blog if you’re keen on the finer details, but if you’d like high level details: I’ve got you covered.
Takes place 3500 years before the movie and 300 years after KOTOR 1&2
They were “only talking PC today”
There will be companion characters
Wants to use an art style which will work with a wide range of PC hardware
No release date announced
Open beta at some point
If you’re looking for some early screenshots and artwork, take a gander below:
There will be a press event held tomorrow at 5:00 PM EST. What about? Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. LucasArts and BioWare are holding the event. Will it be KOTOR III or will it be the KOTOR MMO? I don’t know.
1UP will know the answer though, so keep your eye on 1UP.com.
According to Gamasutra, the Age of Empires and Halo Wars developer was secretly working on a Halo MMO for some time before it was scrapped. For more early artwork and screenshots, head over to this Flickr page.
Flagship Studios’ Hellgate: London wasn’t what people hoped for and for an upstart developer, it hurt them. What sucks, is how their failed project is affecting the company’s other projects such as the promising free to play Diablo-clone, Mythos. Until further notice, Mythos is on hold.
With all the bad news surrounding Flagship Studios, I’m hoping Mythos isn’t on permenant hiatus. When I first saw it a few months ago, it sure looked fun for a free game.
I’m not a big DC Comics fan so when Sony Online Entertainment announced DC Universe Online, I wasn’t that impressed. In fact, I was more impressed with Jim Lee’s one handed push ups. Well, regardless of how I excited I am for a console/PC MMO, it does look pretty good.
A couple of pieces of concept art and a large bundle of screenshots to follow:
Those of you who care for BioWare’s Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic may be pleased to know that an MMO spin off of KOTOR is coming. I can’t say I’m excited for two reasons:
Flagship Studios’ Hellgate: London was a Diablo-clone at its core. It didn’t launch with the highest praise, but don’t let that sour your opinion of the developer because they’re going to release a another Diablo clone: Mythos. On the bright side, it’s a free MMORPG and a lot more traditional than Hellgate: London; it’s up to you to see if this will be a good thing or not.
It looks promising and I am interested in trying it out, but unfortunately it is in closed beta. An open beta phase will begin in the near future though.
First of all, let me apologize in advance to most gamers out there for potentially giving your significant others (or loving mothers if you still live in the basement) some ammo against you. I just have to share this tidbit. After all, blogging is all about droning on ad nauseum about something you feel is earth shattering, but in reality is either completely obvious, or just plain irrelevant to everyone else in the world. Ain’t those intertubes grand? Well now that I’m through with WoW and have a fuckload of time on my hands, I can finally get all introspective in my own attention-whoring corner of the web… (more…)
