Update: Add Mafia II, Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne III to the list of delayed games for TakeTwo.
It seems like publishers and developers like to start the week off with disappointing news.
Such as game delays.
TakeTwo’s BioShock 2 was pushed to 2010 which starts November 2009, but don’t expect it this year. It’s definitely a 2010 title. And here’s why:
“.. it was essential to invest the additional time to ensure that this title will deliver what its fans expect and deserve.”
Unlike BioShock 2, Sony’s Heavy Rain was delayed until 2010 for strategic purposes.
“Most publishers today realise that it’s not ideal to release a new IP or a new genre just before Christmas. It’s a very crowded place to be, and certain games need more space to live their life.”
The last piece of game delay news involves StarCraft II. Despite not having an official release date, analysts are expecting Blizzard’s real-time strategy game to be a 2010 title as well. I’m not surprised.
Bethesda tops off today’s delay news with a delay of Fallout 3 downloadable content for the PlayStation 3 which was pushed into September 2009.
GameTrailers have three videos chalk full of Mafia II gameplay. I like what I see. Audio work exceeds the visuals which aren’t too shabby considering the open world nature. Fire fights already appear to surpass GTAIV’s handidly. Although, a little bit more blood splatter wouldn’t hurt.
Update: GameTrailers put up all the goods. Post updated!
I couldn’t stand watching more than 30 minutes of the Spike VGA’s. (It’s embarrassing to watch) Instead, I sat back and waited for trailers to make their way online. Well, 1UP didn’t let me down. They have the trailers, but I must warn you. They’re off screen captures from a standard definition show — quality is pretty damn awful. I’ll replace with superior quality versions as I run into them.
Without further delay, here’s everything I’ve found thus far. (Missing Fight Night Round 4 which I caught before turning off the show.)
I enjoyed Mafia a lot more than GTA3 and its subsequent sequels on the PlayStation 2/PC. Mafia created a great sense of time and place. Mafia II looks to continue that trend. I’m almost certain that the game will be less open-world, but if they sell a great atmosphere to play in: I’m all for it. Summer 2009 is very far away. In the meantime, check out the screenshots courteousy of Play3-live: (more…)
Not sure what to think of this. BioShock was an excellent experience, but should it have a sequel? Ken Levine is involved, but to what degree? 2K Marin, newly founded by some former developers of the original BioShock team, are the lucky (or unlucky?) developers which have been tasked with bringing a worthy sequel to one of 2007′s finest games. I wish them all the best. No news on platforms, but we can safely assume the PC and XBOX 360 are definitely in the picture
Other Take Two news include the 2009 fiscal release window (between Nov. 1st 2008 and Oct. 31st 2009) for both Mafia 2 and Gearbox’s Borderlands. Apparently, Mafia 2 was delayed thanks to GTAIV. Sadness.
