It’s Super Bowl Sunday 2010. This is the first NFL season which I’ve paid significant attention to, but it’s still superficial compared to the dedicated fans out there. Nevertheless, I do have a preference and want the Indianapolis Colts to achieve victory.

Yes, I’m going to against the impressive Madden NFL prediction.

But enough about football, let’s talk about games. I wrapped up Mass Effect 2 yesterday and I’m currently writing a review on it. (Hint: I loved it.) Everyone should play this game. I’d even recommend playing the original and importing your character into the sequel.

I also spent a fair bit of time with the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 PS3 multiplayer demo. I would have written a dedicated preview on it, but really couldn’t muster the effort to go deep into it. It’s a fine Battlefield game for consoles and one I’m sure I’d enjoy if it wasn’t coming out in March. That month is the new November with its flood of games.

My only gripe with the game itself, however, are the idiots who insist on staying perched on top of their hills sniping and disregarding the objective. There really should be a way to limit the number of snipers. Oh, and a way to mute players. That would be swell as well.

I also tried the Heavy Rain demo. It was as expected as I commented here.

As for what’s next on my plate, it will be BioShock again for the Xbox 360 and then off to the sequel on the PlayStation 3 shortly after. I don’t know what to think of BioShock 2. The only reason why I’m getting it on launch day in the first place is because of the GameStop trade-in deal.

I’ve also been messing around with StarShip Defense on DSiWare and will probably get back into PixelJunk Shooter when I can.

It’s that time of the month again. NPD numbers for August are in and its time for me to put on my “faux analyst” hat on.

The two HD consoles are just within arm’s reach of each other for this month. This is likely due to the “early” release of the PS3 Slims at the end of August. (My brother managed to snag his on that week) Will we see the PS3 overtake the 360 in September? Likely.

Software sales are much more interesting. Madden 10 takes top spot with the 360′s 900+K worth of sales — which may seem like a lot, but it’s actually down from last year. The culprit? The decline of the PS2 and 360 sales numbers. And where’s the Wii version’s? Surprisingly (or not?), the PS3 version’s actually increased over last year’s. Maybe all those Madden PlayStation ads are paying off.

Batman: Arkham Asylum raked in 593, 000 units worth of sales between the two platforms with approximately 13K separating the two of them. I’m sure Sony would have loved to have seen the PS3 version surpass the 360′s with the help of that exclusive PS3 Joker DLC, but what can you do? That’s still a healthy number of units and I’m sure they’ll take solace in that.

Lastly, A PlayStation Portable game in the top 10?! Congrats to Square Enix and Dissidia.

September’s the month of Halo 3: ODST and real PS3 Slim sales numbers. It should be interesting to say the least.

Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier Announced

Apparently, Jak & Daxter are returning to the PSP and PS2. The PS2 is no stranger to PSP ports, so I guess it’s not that surprising that it’ll be receiving a new first party title this late in its life cycle. Expect the title to debut in autumn of 2009.
