PlayStation Day 2008 (Europe)

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Update:

I’ve made significant updates to the post. Lots of new media.

Across the Atlantic in merry old London, Sony held their PlayStation Day press event. What came out of it? Quite a bit.

I’m sure they’ll be plenty of impressions from all the playable games there. In the meantime, here are some bits of media/info:

Haze Demo Impressions

Coinciding with today’s PlayStation Day, European PS3 owners were given a chance to take Free Radical’s Haze for a spin. I admit that after many delays, which pushed this title well into 2008, my interested waned considerably. However, I’m a gamer of patience and thus I downloaded the 1.5 GB demo – I deliberately set GTAIV aside just to try it out so you people better appreciate this. My thoughts? It’s not that bad or that great.

Haze Lookin’ Real.. Shitty.

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

It’s lookin’ bad. I was going to say “lookin’ Hazy”, but the game doesn’t even deserve a terrible pun. The world looks sterile and clear cut with little to no soul. It’s like Free Radical opened up the book on how to make first person shooters and followed it step by step.

This is the update of the night. Some of the QSF5 crew played Brawl tonight which sidetracked me.

Two Screenshots and a Demo

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

Instead of making to small posts about these trivial things, let’s make it into one.

First, an in-game shot of GTAIV featuring its simplistic HUD courteousy of GTAGaming.com. Pretty simple isn’t?

Next, a screenshot from the latest build of the PlayStation 3 “exclusive”, Haze, courteousy of Shacknews:

Looks pretty good to me, but I won’t get my hopes up until the demo is released in early May. The demo will feature 4 player co-op and a taste of the game’s single player.

No One Cares: Haze Delayed Again

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

Surprise. Ubisoft published and Free Radical developed Haze was delayed again. Unfortunately for Haze, I don’t care about it anymore. When I first saw the game footage from Ubidays 07, I was interested with the double edge drug use mechanic and intrigued by how the multiplayer would work. Now? It’s all, but fallen off my radar since it’s much touted 4 player co-op feature has been implemented by the likes of Halo 3.

Frankly, I’m tired of hearing about the game’s exclusivity status and the number of delays it may or may not receive. You know what they should do? Ubisoft should just keep a its mouth shut about the game and have Free Radical release it in the slow summer months — regardless of its state. Perhaps then people will pick it up out of boredom and Free Radical can finally work on a game people may have interest in: Time Splitters 4.
