That’s a surprising list to say the least. Where’s GTAIV which sold for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Where’s Halo 3? I would have liked to have seen the rest of the list since I’m curious how many of the storied franchises fared.
More Guitar Hero this year.
Guitar Hero 5 is self explanatory, but the other two new franchises could use a bit of explaining. And here I go:
- DJ Hero will use the new turntable controller and situate itself within the “hip-hop, R&B, Motown, electronica and dance” music genres.
- Band Hero is confusing the moniker used to describe what will essentially be “Guitar Hero for kids”. Expect “Top 40″ hits styled music.
With music game revenue down 36% for the first quarter of 2009, it’ll be interesting to see if these new franchises will spark interest with new audiences. I personally haven’t played a single one of these music games and I don’t intend to.

I was looking forward to this month. Looking forward to how much of a hardware pusher Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots was. I even participated in NeoGAF’s June NPD prediction thread.
These were my predictions for June 2008:

[NDS] 490K
[PS2] 135K
[PS3] 320K
[PSP] 200K

For the hardcore gamer demographic, Nintendo’s press conference was a bore. For those with an open mind and curious as to how Nintendo will continue to broaden the gaming market, it was something worthwhile. Sorta.
The press conference was a mixed bag and just like Microsoft’s press conference, it’s a lot more exciting to read the list. Enjoy.

Somehow this managed to sell 300 000 units in North America during its first week. Don’t believe me? Read the Activision press release:
