Who reads magazines anymore? Well, apparently not enough people because it looks like Ziff Davis’ CEO Jason Young was quoted saying:

“Mr. Young said the company was considering taking its other print magazine, the video-game publication Electronic Gaming Monthly, into an online-only format, but would not make a decision before the end of the year.”

I am certainly part of the problem here since I don’t subscribe to EGM, but I am a big fan of 1UP.com’s editors and their work. Video and audio podcasts, reviews, previews and blogs — I’m a fan of it all. Let’s hope that this impending closure does not affect the editorial staff. It sucks for the artists and designers, though.

Ziff Davis’ other gaming magazine, Games For Windows Magazine, was shutdown earlier this year. The end of an era is coming.

The near final (or perhaps final) build of the NXE is looking very slick and 1UP has taken the time to show us how it all works from boot up. They go through Avatar creation, achievement browsing, game install and other fun stuff.

New Xbox Experience is scheduled for November 19^th, 2008!

There will be a press event held tomorrow at 5:00 PM EST. What about? Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. LucasArts and BioWare are holding the event. Will it be KOTOR III or will it be the KOTOR MMO? I don’t know.

1UP will know the answer though, so keep your eye on 1UP.com.

All the zombies from the original Resident Evil to Resident Evil 5 in a video put together by the folks at 1UP.com. It’s a neat video, but it doesn’t reflect all the changes that these Resident Evil zombies have gone through.

Still neat, though.

1UP put up a great interview with Metal Gear Solid 4 producer, Hideo Kojima. Excellent read, really. Some notable quotes include:

1UP: Are you happy with the amount of players playing Metal Gear Online?
Kojima: [Laughing] Not at all!

1UP: I think you know where this is heading — the Konami ID and Game ID registration processes are a pain in the ass and just too complicated.

That’s not the only reason why the numbers aren’t that high.

So with the death of GFW Radio podcast due to Jeff Green’s and Shawn Elliott’s exit of 1UP, my Wednesdays/Thursdays are now at a loss. There’s a podcast void which will be very difficult to fill. Not just because GFW Radio was such a quality podcast, but because I had a pretty strict podcast schedule.

Shawn Elliot of GFW Radio fame is leaving 1UP for a game development gig. He’s also known for his CS griefing and Team Fortress 2 Griefing:

I wonder if this is another one of his pranks. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was. Just like how I wouldn’t be surprised if he left 1UP.

Jeff Green is probably the ‘coolest’ 46 year old gamer I know. I had no idea he was with Ziff Davis for 17 years, but all good things must come to an end. And they have. Great sadness.

He was a great podcaster and will be missed. The Brodeo will not be the same without him!

It’s one part preview and two parts interview with CliffyB and Gears of War 2. Burly men with chainsaws guns shooting the crap out of subterranean monsters. Is there anything more manly? Check out the 16 minute 1UP Special. Lots of details about the game’s multiplayer. All of it sounding awesome.
