Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon was a tiring experience. Even saying the game’s full name is a life draining ordeal. Unlike with many of my other purchases, I walked into Devil Summoner 2 without any prior research; I placed my faith into Atlus after my wonderful romps through Persona 3 and 4. I though to myself “What was the worst that could happen?” Well, allow me to regale you with a tale of how my blind faith lead me astray.

Just under sixty hours were dedicated to completing Atlus’ latest entry to their Shin Megami Tensei Persona series. Persona 3: FES set a precedent for what I was expecting out of Persona game. There was going to be relationship development. There was going to be a serious dose of style. There was going to be some wickedly streamlined turn based battles. I toiled with VanillaWare’s Odin Sphere quite some time. It’s one of those games which I was skeptical of despite glowing reviews. Let me cut to the chase: Odin Sphere is not a good game. It’s a border line “okay” game with a handful of painful flaws. I picked up the game months after its North American release through a Boxing Day deal, but even then I don’t believe it’s worth the $29.99 CAD price tag. Well enough with the intro; let’s get down to it. (more…)
