Quick Impressions: Castle Crashers and Galaga Legions

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Castle Crashers is an excellent 2D hack and slash game. Tight controls, great art style and most importantly: 4-player co-op. At 1200 MS it’s quite the deal. Unfortunately, the lack of MS points card is stopping me from buying this.

Galaga Legions isn’t my cup of tea. I’ll play it, but it just doesn’t spark interest. I enjoyed the puzzle like elements of the Galaga formations and the ability to place two satellites at any point in the screen. In the end, the bland visual style, weak electronic soundtrack and lack of “pizazz” with the explosions leave me wanting more.

Too Human Xbox 360 Demo Impressions

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Too Human is due to release on August 19th, 2008 and this demo was release on July 14th as part of Microsoft’s E3 promotions. I was told that this game was a hack-and-slash game with RPG elements (like Diablo) so I was enthusiastic. Let just say that I slightly disappointed and here’s why.

We’ve been waiting for it and it finally arrived on March 4th, 2008. Yes, after being delayed multiple times, EA’s Army of Twowas officially released to the public. I rented the game over the weekend so here are my impressions on EA’s latest shooter.

In short: A really good rental to play with a friend as this game is built with coop in mind.

undertow logo

During the holidays, Microsoft announced that Xbox Live members were going to receive a free XBLA game and decided, last week, that this game was Undertow. I personally don’t have many experiences with XBLA games so I really didn’t know what to expect.

My opinion: A surprisingly fun game.

I must be honest and say that I was looking forward to this game. After playing a lot of Call of Duty 4 lately, I was looking for a Battlefield type game where you could use vehicles as well. It’s easy to see that when I loaded up this demo, I was full of hopes and anticipations.

If you are looking for my quick and short impressions on it, I was disappointed.

XBOX 360 Fall 2007 Update Impressions

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

The XBOX 360 Fall 2007 Dashboard update was unleashed upon the world today and it is probably the best update ever for Microsoft’s box. I was very impressed with the changes made. Performing the update also reminded me how easy and relatively painless it is to update the console compared to a System Update on the PLAYSTATION 3. I guess if there is anyone who should be good at patching, it would be Microsoft.

Here were some of the key changes which I appreciated:

- Improved Dashboard performance
- Added DivX/Xvid support.
- Improved organization layout of most blades
- Friends of Friends

Full change log can be found here.
