Short of watching the press conference for yourself (I missed it), I highly recommend visiting Nintendo’s excellent E3 site. All the details and media for most of Nintendo’s announced titles could be found there.
I wish all console manufacturers did it as easy as Nintendo’s site.
For the lazy, I’ve listed the gist of things. It’s not the prettiest list, but it gets the job done.
StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty has a release date and it’s July 27, 2010. That means I need to get a new PC sooner rather than later. Or maybe not? Who knows? I may just tough it out and play it on my existing rigs. (As you can see, there’s virtually no desire for me to get a new PC at the moment).
I am pondering the notion of a new Wii though; a black Wii to be precise.
Starting May 9, 2010, folks can pick up Wii’s in either superior black or plain white. Both will come bundled with Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort and a Wii Motion Plus. The price will remain the same at $209.99.
And what do both of these news articles have in common? They’re both going to make a lot of money this year.
After announcing a release date and giving the press some hands-on time, Nintendo finally gives the public a good look at some gameplay footage.
Enjoy! I certainly did.
I love how they spent the first few shots reminding us that Samus is a woman. The Metroid series went from:
“Oh, by the way, Samus is a woman.”
to
“DUDE, CHECK IT OUT! SAMUS IS A WOMAN! BOOBS!”

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Trailer
Nintendo brought the goods today at their Media Summit event. Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M within a month of each other? That’s insane. The Galaxy 2 trailer had me tingling with anticipation already, but what about Metroid: Other M? We haven’t seen anything about it and they’re already aiming for a June release? I hope it’s as good, if not better, than Metroid Prime 3: Corruption which is one of my favorite Wii games thus far.
This reminds me: I’ve got to do the Luigi run of Super Mario Galaxy before the sequel hits.
Screenshots of this Wii port of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare were not flattering at all. It looks like a PSP game in some of those screenshots. We laughed and were all very skeptical about Treyarch’s porting capabilities. But after having seen some of the footage of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Reflex, I’m pleasantly surprised with how it looks. It’s not that bad.
It’s not that bad when you’re comparing a Youtube video of it against your memory, but once you stack it side by side? You can see the cuts they made. You can’t tell by the video, but the game is actually running at 30 FPS. Is it a huge loss? I don’t think so. Especially considering that if you’re really serious about Modern Warfare, you’ll be playing it on the HD consoles anyways.
A Toys R Us ad from the United States seems to be pointing towards that.
If the ad (pictured above) is to be believed (which at this point, I don’t see why not), the Wii will be getting a $50 USD price cut which brings the MSRP down to $199.99 USD. As for the target date of this price cut? Around the last week of September/first week of October.
The question I have is, what will that mean for Canadians?
At the moment, the Canadian MSRP sits at $279.99 CAD. When (not if) we receive a price cut in Canada, will we reach parity with U.S? Sony priced their console at $199.99 for both countries, will Nintendo follow suit?
I would hope so. Nintendo was kind enough to shave off $20 from the Nintendo DSi price tag, so why not the Wii?
Thanks to GameLoft and Interplay, Earthworm Jim is heading for PSN, WiiWare and XBLA this holiday 2009.
Will it be the original or will it be a remake like GameLoft’s other notable remake, Prince of Persia Classic? The press release doesn’t say. I was excited about the prospect of a sequel or a remake of the original, but a rerelease is a tougher pill to swallow.
I don’t recall the gameplay of Earthworm Jim being very good. I remember being amused by the goofy animation styling and the soundtrack, but not the gameplay itself. And if the game was sketchy then it must atrocious by today’s standards. Either way, I’m curious to see what will come out of this news!
