The memories are flooding back to me now. I played the hell out of Doom II. It was my first ever first person shooter experience and I cherish it deeply. I still think the game looks great for being nearly 15 years old. Probably has to do with the fact that they’re all sprite based or the fact that nostalgia makes everything look great.

I’d get on XBLA, but something about playing this game with a controller seems blasphemous.

While GRIN may have died, some folks went on to FatShark who also developed the impressive looking downloadable title, Lead and Gold, as well.

Seems like it’s in good hands — even if they decided to include the ability to jump. More quality 2.5-D side scrollers is always welcomed.

Update

Thanks to GameLoft and Interplay, Earthworm Jim is heading for PSN, WiiWare and XBLA this holiday 2009.

Will it be the original or will it be a remake like GameLoft’s other notable remake, Prince of Persia Classic? The press release doesn’t say. I was excited about the prospect of a sequel or a remake of the original, but a rerelease is a tougher pill to swallow.

I don’t recall the gameplay of Earthworm Jim being very good. I remember being amused by the goofy animation styling and the soundtrack, but not the gameplay itself. And if the game was sketchy then it must atrocious by today’s standards. Either way, I’m curious to see what will come out of this news!

I’m pretty stoked about this year’s Summer of Arcade lineup. I’m interested in Shadow Complex specifically and for 1200 MS points? Sounds good to me. Everything else seems a bit high — just look at TMNT for 1200 MS?!

Oh, and there will be an exclusive demo coming to PlayStation Network this week! Glee! But, what is up Capcom and their exclusive demos?

With this coming it’s not a stretch to believe Capcom is developing Marvel vs Capcom 3 using either the Tatsunoko vs Capcom engine or the Street Fighter IV engine (the former being the most obvious choice). They’ve gone through the trouble of reacquiring the Capcom license, why simply use it to rerelease a nine year old game?
