Carmack: RAGE (360) Will Look Worse Unless…

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

…Microsoft reduces the third DVD licensing fee? That’s pretty damn ridiculous. How much does it cost to include a third DVD? Apparently, it’s enough for John Carmack to be vocal about the possiblity of an inferior Xbox 360 version.

Obviously, Microsoft won’t let this kind of triviality hurt their game, so I’m guessing they’ll bend to Carmack’s wishes — just like how they accomodated for Capcom’s Bionic Commando: Rearmed and SSF2T:HDR.

At this point in time, RAGE will come on two DVDs for the Xbox 360 version and on a single Blu-ray disc for the PS3 version. As for the Mac and PC versions? They’ll be distributed via multiple DVDs and via a single Blu-ray disc. Digital distribution is unlikely at this time.

Meanwhile, gawk at this awesome trailer:

Facebreaker PS3 Demo Impressions

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

What do I know about Facebreaker?

  1. It’s a brand new boxing IP from Electronic Arts Sports division.
  2. It’ll have an arcadey feel.
  3. It has a wacky art style.

That’s it. This gives me an opportunity to go through the newly released PSN demo with a clean slate. The videos of it showed off something different from the norm and I commend it for that. But, as we all know, looks aren’t everything. So let’s see if this Facebreaker is worth going toe to toe with.

NewEgg Coming To Canada

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

So I was just told that the American online technology retailer is coming to Canada. Looking forward to more competition! DirectCanada.com, NCIX.com and TigerDirect.ca needs a strong competitor like NewEgg to keep them honest.

Check the official website for more details.

Thanks Eric!

Wolfenstein Trailer Looks Like Wolfenstein

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

The first teaser didn’t feel very ’Wolfenstein’ for me. It was missing something, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. Perhaps it was the lack of German narration which this new QuakeCon 08 trailer dishes out.

Enjoy!

Nine Screens of NBA LIVE 09

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Are these new? I can never tell with sports game media. Anyways, nine screenshots from the PS3/Xbox 360 build of NBA LIVE 09. The theme for this batch? It’s showcasing members of the NBA’s younger generation.

Looks alright. I’m just wondering how it plays at this point.

AiLive introduces LiveMove2 (Wii Lightsabers!)

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Click here to watch an impressive demonstration of AiLive’s new middleware that allows developers to easily include 1:1 motion capture into their games. I’m sure this is a breath of fresh air for all the developers who were caught off guard by the announcement of the Wii MotionPlus during this year’s E3.

Castle Crashers & Braid Will Cost Over 1200 MS Points?! (Updated)

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Update: Kotaku was updated. Looks like Castle Crashers won’t be going for 1800 MS Points. Braid’s price tag wasn’t corrected, though.

Well this piece of news took a bit of wind out of my sails. It looks like the prices of Braid and Castle Crashers aren’t going to 800 MS points like I originally thought.

Here’s the new breakdown:

Braid will cost 1200 MS points (~ $17.40 CAD)
Castle Crashers - 1800 MS points (~ $26.10 CAD)

That’s asking a lot. Especially when Geometry Wars 2 and Bionic Commando: Rearmed is going to cost 800 MS (~ $11.60 CAD) each. Galaga Legions is the only one without a price tag at the moment.

Please note that the conversion rate between MS points to Canadian Dollars could be outdated.

P.S - Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 is out today! At least try the demo.

Convincing The Masses That Vista Doesn’t Suck

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

With blogs, message boards and an extremely vocal minority, it’s tough to get rid the terrible stigma surrounding Windows Vista. There are folks like me who’re trying to dispel the misinformation, but we can only do so much. What Vista needs is for Microsoft to step up and set the record straight.

And they have with, ‘Mojave‘.

Microsoft decided to gather a bunch of Vista haters and sit them down to experience this “new operating system” dubbed ‘Mojave’. Mojave isn’t a new version of Windows. It isn’t even a super secret Service Pack. It’s just plain old Vista, but these haters didn’t know that. They gave Microsoft positive impressions after spending some time with ‘Mojave’ and I’m sure they felt quite silly after realizing they ‘Mojave’ was just Vista in disguise.

Microsoft is planning to use these positive impressions in their new marketing campaign. I wish them the best. They have quite a bit of FUD to get rid of.

Screens of Too Human’s Hall of Heroes

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

I didn’t find the Too Human demo particularly enthralling, but that’s just me, right? While I may not be the biggest fan of the gameplay itself, I am appreciative of its context and its setting. Take the Hall of Heroes as an example. I think it actually looks pretty nifty.

You too can judge its niftiness through these screens.

No Gravity (PSP Homebrew Game) Trailer

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

It must be pretty exciting turning a homebrew project into a commercial product. I’ve tried the demo of RealTechVR’s No Gravity and it was pretty damn impressive for a homebrew game. That was a year ago and judging by their most recent trailer, they’ve improved considerably.

According to the official website, No Gravity is scheduled to be released this summer via the European PSN Store. Can’t way to try it again.
