PS3 Firmware 2.40 Walkthrough

Monday, June 30th, 2008

It’s been a long time coming. Firmware 2.40, which brings in-game XMB and Trophy support, is finally coming on July 2nd! For the lazy, Sony’s Eric Lempel broke down both features through these two videos:

It sounds all nice and dandy and brings the PS3’s communication and community feature sets a lot closer to the Xbox 360’s. In a few ways areas, firmware 2.4 actually edges out Microsoft’s implementation, but then there are some basics which have yet to be fully realized.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Review

Monday, June 30th, 2008

The fourth installment of the original stealth action franchise brings the legendary hero’s saga to an end. As a fan who loves this series, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is my most anticipated game of the year and quite possibly, ever. I purchased a PlayStation 3 for this game. In fact, you could say I assembled my entire home entertainment system in preparation for Snake’s final mission. The expectations are high with the folks at Sony, Konami, loyal followers and critics alike anticipating nothing, but the best from Kojima Productions. I don’t know if it rocked the sales charts or silenced the critics, but I do know it spoke to me and delivered an extremely satisfying gaming experience.

Checkpoint: Canada Day Edition

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

Wow. I missed the Friday deadline. What happened? I simply forgot. There wasn’t much to talk about anyways.

So what was I up to? Playing Pixeljunk Monsters. Watching the 1UP Show featuring a Gears of War 2 Q&A session, Alone in the Dark and BF: Bad Company. Oh, and I was watching my brother go through the final act of MGS4. My review is essentially done — just doing the proofreading and such. Don’t worry, there’s no spoilers.

Rogers Crushes Dreams With New iPhone Pricing Plans

Friday, June 27th, 2008

We were all excited about the prospects of owning an iPhone 3G in Canada. $299.99 for the device itself sounds great, but we all knew it was going to be bound to a contract and a plan? The question was: how much was this plan going to cost?

We finally have answers from Rogers. Dreams officially crushed.

$60 per month for 400 MB of data and 150 anytime minutes? Do not want. Talk about price gouging. Some of us are upset, but some are even more so.

I’ve made a graph showing the difference of price for the IPhone between Rogers Canada and other countries.

Pretty much the worst

15 Adorable FFF: Chocobo Dungeon Snapshots

Friday, June 27th, 2008

These Chocobo related games must be going after some the most niche markets out there. Well, perhaps they’re not so niche since Square Enix keeps churning them out and people keep buying them. I personally never played any one of them. Should I?

These Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Dungeon screens for for the Wii sure aren’t convincing me to though…

It’s Call of Duty 4’s marvelous engine. What more do you want? A flamethrower? Got that. Some intimate brutality? Got that too. More Modern Warfare? Sorry, out of those. We do have a handful of screenshots of more World War II action, though! They may not be new to you, but they’re new to us.

Check it.
