Last Sunday I brushed off my Sega Dreamcast and hooked it up to my Dell UltraSharp 2007WFP. At first, it was going well. Everything was working, but then in the middle of Marvel vs Capcom 2, the Dreamcast went black. So, with the aid of Google, I resurrected my Dreamcast.
It’s been awhile since I was excited for a demo. Today, the Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit was released for both the PlayStation Network and the Xbox Live! Marketplace. But why be excited for a Dragon Ball game? Well, I for one was/am a Dragon Ball fan. Secondly, this is a DBZ game developed by Dimps, the talent behind DBZ: Budokai 3 and co-developer of Street Fighter 4. So, I downloaded the 478 MB demo and desperately held hope for a spiritual successor to Budokai 3 and you know what? It is.
I had a chance to load up Boom Blox last night for the first time and I must say I was very impressed. The overall polish and presentation of the game alone are enough to keep you drawn in. The very intuitive menus made it easy to go in an quickly run through the tutorials in under 5 minutes. Immediately after the tutorials I dove into some quick multiplayer games with my girlfriend who was also extremely impressed with the game even though I would not consider her to be a gamer.
Molyneux says no to a Fable 2 demo (if he had the choice), but Too Human’s Dyack, on the other hand, is more than willing to provide one for his upcoming game.
Luckily for Molyneux, I don’t need a demo to convince me to buy his game. I enjoyed Fable despite it not delivering what Molyneux promised. I’m undecided with Too Human. The demo better be damn good. It can either launch it to stardom or doom it. I’ll be able to make my decision sometime before August 19th.
Apparently Electronic Arts just couldn’t help, but hold their own press event on the same day as Microsoft’s. Oh well, lots of media was released including footage for both Left4Dead and BattleField: Heroes.
The event was today and it was chalk full of tidbits from games published by Microsoft Games Studio. I’m going to link to this awesome NeoGAF post which summarized everything quite well. Lots of details if you want them.
However, for the incredibly lazy, I’ll break it down a bit.
Halo 3’s marketing campaign was a bit absurd, but when you sit it next to the likes of Metal Gear Solid 4’s I would consider it tame. Montain Dew has nothing on this. GameSpot dives into even greater detail.
iPods, Japanese models, T-shirts and other gimmicks were announced to celebrate this launch. As if MGS4 wasn’t a big deal enough, Konami is going out of their way to make it even bigger — especiallly in Japan. And remember that Assassin’s Solid video? Well, with the blessing of Ubisoft, Snake can strut around wearing Altair’s gear.
Check out the theatrical trailer. Hilarious if its a parody, but sad if its not. Knowing Kojima, it’s probably just fun and games.
P.S - I know about the first 10 minutes of Metal Gear Solid 4 video. I’m not touching that. It must be a surprise.
WiiWare launched. There’s a press release and that’s about it. It’s great to see some original games for Wii, but nothing there is grasping my attention yet. Well, accept for LostWinds. Anyone want to buy it for me?
The rest of the WiiWare launch titles are as follows:
