Dead Fantasy II

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Monty Oum’s Dead Fantasy was a fanboy’s fantasy come true; chicks duking in a well choreographed fashion. It’s been awhile, but here’s part two of Dead Fantasy.

I thought it was well done despite the lack of reality. It was just silly entertainment.

P.S - Tifa rocks so much.

God of War: Chains of Olympus Review

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

gowcoo_review.jpg

It hasn’t been very long since God of War 2 arrived for the PlayStation 2, but here we are, 12 months later with another epic anger filled adventure with our pale friend, Kratos. Developed by the talented folks at Ready at Dawn, this PlayStation Portable title hopes to capture what we all love in God of War and cram it into a handheld. Was the task too much for them? No, I’m very pleased to say they succeeded. And more.

Sonic Unleashed - May Not Suck

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

sonicunleashed.jpg

Another Sonic game will be gracing (or mocking) us soon. Sonic fans desperately want their blue hedgehog to succeed and Sonic Unleashed looks like it it could pull it off. Maybe? We have screenshots courteousy of Gamersyde and even a leaked Youtube gameplay video complete with shoddy quality.

It looks very promising, but I will reserve any judgement until I get to try it for myself. At least we haven’t seen any of Sonic’s extraneous friends yet.

Update: GameTrailers has a slightly better version of the “trailer“. Video still stutters, though.

Gorgeous KOFXII Screenshots

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

It looks great in motion and as evidenced by Famitsu’s latest screenshots: in stills as well. Arcade testing will be underway next month in Japan where fans will finally get to try out this 100% hand drawn 2-D fighter for themselves.

I just can’t wait for a console release.

All Japanese NES Games In Order

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

Thanks to sp0rsk of NeoGAF for posting this. The following videos is from a series which is showcasing all the Famicom (Japanese NES) games ever released. It’s being updated every Sunday (Japan time). There will be 26 episodes with each running for approximately 10 minutes each.

Since I started my gaming with the Super Nintendo, most of this is foreign to me. Some of the early games looked very impressive. Be warned some games have a ear piercing sounds. Ugh. Anyways, if you have time to kill: indulge in video game history!

P.S - For the lazy, I will try to update this post with each instalment.

No_Style’s Checkpoint: Quad Day Weekend Edition

Friday, March 21st, 2008

It’s a long weekend. A four day long weekend. We (four out of the five QSF5 crew) started the weekend early with our Smash get together. It was good, but we got smashed too quickly to play some serious Smash. We definitely need to do it again with less alcohol though.

I’m actually sitting here relaxing/recovering with podcasts. I didn’t listen to any of them this week; it’s been a busy week.

What to do this weekend? Smash Bros? Given. Going to wrap up the God of War: Chains of Olympus review and probably start Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. I’m dropping down a few hours of Call of Duty 4 as well. I’m quite terrible these days.

I’m going to keep this short since I want to play some more Smash.

Getting To Know C. Viper

Friday, March 21st, 2008

Capcom’s newest female character in Street Fighter IV, Crimsom Viper, is beginning to grow on me. Especially after this video from GameTrailers which reveal some of her special moves. Pretty good.

Update: GameTrailers also has an Abel Expose out.

A Fan Made Metroid 2 Remake

Friday, March 21st, 2008

metroid2.jpgThere are hardcore and talented game fans that can create some remarkable stuff. The most recent fan created project I ran into is a remake of Metroid II for the original Game Boy. There is a playable tech demo, but if you’re lazy there are plenty screenshots and videos.

I’ve never played Metroid II, but I know this remake isn’t staying very true to its source. Is that a bad thing? No. I’m pleased with the re-imagining – it’s like Metroid: Zero Mission. I tried the tech demo and it was brilliantly smooth, controlled great and captured the Metroid spirit well. There were tiny imperfections here and there, but it’s a tech demo.

I hope the developer can finish this game. I really do. Hopefully the Nintendo lawyers will lay off.

PS3 BD-Live Compliant Very Soon

Friday, March 21st, 2008

ps3_logo.jpgAs an testament of the flexibility and evolving nature of the PS3, Sony will be releasing a firmware update and bringing the PS3’s Blu-ray compatibility up to BD-Live (Profile 2.0).

Other changes in the upcoming firmware include:

  • “Resume play” will enable PS3 system to start playing a Blu-ray disc and DVD at the point it was stopped, even if the disc had been removed.
  • “Audio Output Device” will be a new Remote Play setting, enabling PSP to serve as a remote control for music played through PS3.
  • PS3 system’s Internet browser will be enhanced: Video files directly linked from a Web page will be able to be streamed, and the browser’s view speed will be improved.
  • DivX and WMV format videos that are larger than 2GB will be playable.
  • “Mosquito Noise Reduction” will be added as an AV setting in the control panel of the DVD/BD player for improved movie playback.

I’m very pleased by this upcoming firmware. The improved DivX and Internet browser update are most welcome.

It’s just too bad that Sony can’t patch their way out of the latest BD+ cracking.

Wipeout HD Videos @ 60 FPS

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Got bandwidth to burn? Want some visually stimulus? Head over to GamerSyde’s Wipeout HD section for some succulent videos rendered/encoded at 720p and 60 FPS.

I noticed minor tearing and framerate inconsistencies, but this is a preview build. The final release is expected to arrive in the summer.
