GeForce 10 Coming In July

Monday, March 31st, 2008

If this piece of news turns out to be true, then the GeForce 9 series was severely disappointing. Where did the 9800 GT go? Oh well, I look forward to the GeForce 10K GT, though. I want an outstanding mid-range video card to replace my 7800/7900 GT with and I’m not settling with the 8800 GT despite its excellent price/performance ratio.

Please let the new video cards cost $299 or less!

New PSN Store Coming Mid-April (Now with Images!)

psn_store_1_small.jpg

There’s no way to sugar coat it: the current PSN Store smells. It’s web-based, clunky and looks a lot shoddier than Wii Shop Channel or the XBOX Live! Marketplace. Well, I’m very pleased to see that Sony will be addressing this issue with their upcoming revamp of the PSN Store which will go live in mid-April. It’s look very slick.

This new store looks like it will require a firmware update since it will no longer use the web browser. Aside from this and Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, I wonder what else will arrive with it because two week’s worth of PSN content will be withheld for this update.

IR2BT - Use Universal Remotes To Control Your PS3

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Not the cheapest solution, but for those who are interested in controlling their PS3 with a universal remote, this IR2BT device may be what you’re looking for it.

Cost: $55 USD
Shipping: Ships internationally, but will not mark as “gift”.
How it works: Here’s a video.

It’s a bit too pricey for me, but I thought some of you would find it handy. They’re currently out of stock, but will be updating inventory weekly apparently.

No_Style’s Checkpoint: Crisis Core Edition

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII was released earlier this week and I am currently mashing my way through it. I played through Final Fantasy VII a while ago via my PSP and I was not that impressed with it. I’m going to blame poor translation and dated presentation for my lack of FFVII appreciation. I also didn’t like Cloud Strife as a character, but I did enjoy the story behind Cloud’s rebirth as ex-SOLDIER extraordinaire. So far Crisis Core is doing many things right with only a handful of peculiar quirks marring it; I’ll elaborate more in my upcoming review of it. Don’t expect it soon.

No To Paid Map Packs

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

The free content situaion for PC gamers is great. Maps, levels and other small content are usually given to player community for free from either the developer or the community itself. When developers give away free content, it was like they were saying “Thanks, for buying our game. Here’s another map or two to make your purchase worthwhile.” Relationships between the players and developers were formed. Developers knew that these acts of kindness will convince their players to come back to their games in the future, because they will get their’s money’s worth and probably a little more.

Unsurprisingly, console manufacturers and developers have embrassed the idea of additional downloadable content, but unlike on the PC platform, a majority of the content is being charged for. I do not expect everything to be given to the player community for free, but I do believe that there are certain pieces of content that the developers or console manufacturers should just give away. Multiplayer maps are such pieces of content.

RE5 Demonstration from Famitsu

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

re5_chrisredfield.jpg

I’m jealous of the Japanese. Not just because of their lovely ladies, nice cars or other technological marvels, but also because they have Famitsu and its exclusives. This week’s Famitsu featured some footage for Capcom’s upcoming Resident Evil 5. Awesomeness confirmed. They took the RE4 formula and ran with it. Rumors are stating a 2009 release which doesn’t surprise me since Capcom have tasted the nectar of success with RE4 and probably wants to taste it again with RE5.

Anyways, check out the footage for some Japanese commentary and a glimpse of Chris Redfield’s huge arms.

P.S - “Resident Evil 4: Classic Edition” for PS3/360 was debunked. Sorta. I’d buy it if it came out for PS3/360, though. RE4 is so good.

MGS4 and MGO Screenshots

“New” screenshots of Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Online have been released. It’s “new”, because these have not been officially released yet, but we have seen them in the various trailers. I’m still undecided about the tint filters they’re using though. It’s stylish and helps set the tone, but a part of me wants to see some vibrancy.

Anywho, it’s still looking good. Looking real good. Just check out all that chest hair. Aren’t you glad everything’s in high definition now?

PS3 2.20 Firmware Live

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Well, they said firmware 2.20 and its BD-Live! compatibility was coming and now it’s here. Now the PS3 is one of the first, if not the first, Blu-ray Profile 2.0 players out there.

Fun!

Update #1:
Dude! DivX compatibility was increased! My Bleach episodes and a bunch of other AVIs, which weren’t working before, are now working fine! This is all through DLNA streaming as well.

Update #2:
For the lazy, there’s a video demonstrating the new firmware’s abilities.

Oh, and if you’re wondering if the PS3 is the best Blu-ray player, it may not be anymore. However, look at it this way, it could always be improved in the upcoming firmwares.

Super Smash Bros. Series Evolution

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Did the Super Smash series evolve? It certainly did visually! GameTrailers created a nice little video showcasing all the changes. Oh Kirby, you so weren’t round during the N64 days.
