AMD Radeon HD 3870 X2: The Faux King

Monday, January 28th, 2008

radeon-3870-x2.jpeg

Those who have been following the video card war knows how dismal AMD (ATI) have been performing as of late. Well the AMD Radeon HD 3870 X2 is changing all of that with its “2 GPUs on 1 PCB” video card. It’s a monster, but it does technically put AMD on the top despite the unconventional means of reaching there.

$2.4 Million For 30 Seconds of HD-DVD Touting

Monday, January 28th, 2008

superbowlxlii.jpgDespite Warner Brothers shunning and, more recently, Woolworths rejection, Toshiba still believes that HD-DVD can win. So much so, that they believe a $2.4 million ad during Super Bowl XLII will be beneficial to the HD-DVD cause. Well somebody needs to believe in the cause, because Microsoft isn’t as committed as they should be — they admitted that they’ve been speaking with the “enemy” about their HDi software. Don’t read too much into it though, it could just be ‘coopetition’.

Good luck with ad, Toshiba. Here’s hoping that it was money well spent!

New PS3 SKU On Its Way?

Monday, January 28th, 2008

Remember the report about the 80 GB PS3s being discontinued? Remember when no replacement was in sight? Well apparently, there may be a replacement to fill the void of the 80 GB SKU. The new SKU will apparently have a storage capacity between 120 GB and 160 GB. Will this be confusing for consumers? Yes. Especially if 80 GB SKUs are still on store shelves. On the bright side, it looks like the new SKU will be introduced at the same price point of $499 – get more value for your money. The pack in with a Dual Shock 3 would be icing on the cake if this whole thing turns out to be true.

Personally, I wish Sony would abandon its dual-SKU strategy and stop screwing over early adopters slightly with these refreshes; new bundles are fine, but don’t change the hard drive size. Why not just wait til you can purchase the 500 GB SKU?

Thanks, ArsTechnica.

My Life Without WoW: “It’s Just a Game”

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

I'll show YOU 'Just a game'!

Continued from My life Without WoW: Introduction

First of all, let me apologize in advance to most gamers out there for potentially giving your significant others (or loving mothers if you still live in the basement) some ammo against you. I just have to share this tidbit. After all, blogging is all about droning on ad nauseum about something you feel is earth shattering, but in reality is either completely obvious, or just plain irrelevant to everyone else in the world. Ain’t those intertubes grand? Well now that I’m through with WoW and have a fuckload of time on my hands, I can finally get all introspective in my own attention-whoring corner of the web…

No_Style’s Checkpoint - HDTV Setup Edition

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

First off, my replacement PotC: Curse of the Black Pearl arrived.

The Sony KDL-52W3000 arrived and thus there will be lots of moving, disconnecting and reconnecting of video equipment. I will also need to reprogram the Logitech Harmony 880 for it as well. By the way, if anyone knows of any deals on a Logitech Harmony 880; give me a shout.

If there was any reason for me to try Second Life, it would be to see all the freaky shit that Shawn Elliot of GFW Radio was going on about. There was some seriously hilarious anecdotes on this week’s podcast. Nothing truly notable from the Kojima Production Report or 1UP Yours, but they were still great.

NeoGAF Presents: Last Alarm Trailer

Friday, January 25th, 2008

The community of NeoGAF impressed me earlier this year with the G.A.M.E. album, but now there’s a NeoGAF presented game called: Last Alarm: The A.r.g.u.s. Complex. It’s an overhead 2-D shoot ‘em up. I’m not totally sold on it yet, but I’ll definitely give it a try if there’s a demo. Check out the trailer below. It has awesome music!

4ftermath’s Checkpoint - Cloverfield Edition

Friday, January 25th, 2008

Tonight, I’m supposed to go see the movie Cloverfield. I must say that I was hyped to see this movie since the first preview came out and now seeing that it doesn’t have extremely bad reviews, I look forward to see it. I will write something down about it next week most likely.

I’ll immerse myself in Commander Shepard’s story over the weekend. For those of you that don’t know what I am talking about, I’ll be playing some Mass Effect. I managed to get in about 15 hours in the game and I enjoy it so far. Most of my friends find it boring because there is not enough “action” but I like this kind of RPG-Shooter.

If I have time, I’ll be trying Undertow’s multiplayer. I don’t expect to me much more than the single player, but I really want to try it.

Don’t forget, Super Bowl XLII weekend is next week. I’ve got a whole lot of people coming over to enjoy the game in HD on my Samsung LN-T4661F LCD.
