AMD Radeon HD 3870 X2: The Faux King

Those who have been following the video card war knows how dismal AMD (ATI) have been performing as of late. Well the AMD Radeon HD 3870 X2 is changing all of that with its “2 GPUs on 1 PCB” video card. It’s a monster, but it does technically put AMD on the top despite the unconventional means of reaching there.
Reviews have been positive all around, but unfortunately it may be short lived since NVIDIA is expected to introduce the GeForce 9800 GX2 which places two 8800 GTs together. If a Radeon HD 3870 X2 is two regular Radeon HD 3870s on one card, then the 9800 GX2 should reclaim the performance crown from NVIDIA simply because the GeForce 8800 GT is faster. That is if NVIDIA doesn’t mess it up, but how could they? They must have gained plenty of experience from the GeForce 7950 GX2.
Even with all these new video cards and awesome performance, I cannot convince myself to put down the money for any of it. Especially with the lack of compelling games on the PC which require such power. Sorry Crysis.
