R.I.P. Heath Ledger, we hardly knew ye
The Joker is dead.
According to numerous sources, Heath Ledger was found dead in his Manhatten apartment this afternoon. A maid apparently walked in to find him face down on the floor, naked, with pills strewn about his body. Sounds too convenient if you ask me. But if there’s any sort of shenanigans going on behind this, I’m sure CSI: New York will dig up the dirt. Although I’m not so confident in their success without the clever one-liner quips and sunglass-taking-off skills of Horatio from CSI: Miami.
Well it is often entertaining to hear about stories like Keifer spending Christmas, New Years, and his birthday in jail, or about Britney shaving her head and going to a mental institution, or heck, I even chuckled when America blamed Jessica Simpson for her boyfriend’s football team losing the playoffs. But when one of these celebrities takes the thrill of living rich and famous lives a tad to far and goes and offs themself with a bottle of pills, no one laughs…not even Guy Smiley from Sesame Street.
I was walking around with a smile on my face after just finishing watching Will Smith’s I Am Legend. I think no matter what movie Will Smith does, I would enjoy watching it. While I can not say the same about Mr. Ledger’s flicks, I still respected the guy as an actor who kept a low profile and didn’t go out and show himself off. After watching some breaking news stories on NBC and what not, it is apparent the guy has always done his best to live the normal life and I guess that’s why we never hear about him in the tabloids. But apparently he dated Naiomi Watts and had a baby with Michelle Williams last year. Although I think they were heading for a divorce so who knows what the real deal is.
Anyway, the only movie I remember seeing Heath in is A Knights Tale which I mocked for days about all the anachronisms in it, and reuse of the same jousting scenes over and over just filmed at different angles. I mean come on, having a medieval jousting crowd chanting “We will Rock You” by Queen is too much for me to handle!! I just wanna take that VHS and smash it on the floor and then take a gigantic buffalo dump all over it…. Oh…uh…you’re still reading this aren’t you…sorry, I’ll continue paying my respects now…I never saw Brokeback Mountain, but it got nominated and won a few Oscar awards, so he deserves props for that. We will also get to see him later this year in the new Batman movie which is in post production so I wouldn’t think there would be any delays. Although I’m sure when I watch it, I will get that same wierd feeling I got when I watched the movie Queen Of The Damned starring Aaliyah who died in a plane crash before the movie was completed.
Heath Ledger, you were a young lad and I am truely disheartened to see you go way before your time. Who knows what sort of career you may have endeavored, perhaps the next Batman movie might have been your big breakthrough. We all know playing the Joker definitely helped keep the latter part of Jack Nicholson’s acting career from fading away. Either way, what’s done is done and this grave news is just one more grain of sand on the beach of reasons why I’m starting to realize becoming rich and famous is not all it’s cracked up to be. I’d probably be okay with just being rich, the fame seems to be fracking with these peoples’ medulla oblongati. Although we have yet to find out if this was a cowardly act similar to the late and not so great Chris ‘The Crippler’ Benoit, or more like our tragic loss of our beloved Phil Hartman, let us all take a moment to bow our heads in sorrow for yet another celebrity down the drain and remember to live each day as if it was your last day on Earth. R.I.P. Health Ledger, we hardly knew ye.

As a person who hardly knew Heath Ledger or his works outside of the upcoming Batman sequel, I was surprised with how much acclaim and praise the man received. It’s going to be eerie to see him in “The Dark Knight” later this year. His own rendition of The Joker is simply awesome and it’s a damn shame that he will not have the opportunity to fill that role again.
Rest in peace, good sir.
P.S - Excellent tribute, sir.
