I must be honest and say that I was looking forward to this game. After playing a lot of Call of Duty 4 lately, I was looking for a Battlefield type game where you could use vehicles as well. It’s easy to see that when I loaded up this demo, I was full of hopes and anticipations.

If you are looking for my quick and short impressions on it, I was disappointed.

Steam Now Supports Gift Purchases

Friday, December 14th, 2007

A Steam update was just released with one noticeable and festive feature: gift purchases. It is an excellent method of gift giving for that PC gamer on your list. If you are wondering how it all works check out the Steam FAQ.

Some folks may recall that Steam supported gift giving for only Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode One earlier this year, but now the feature supports all games available at the Steam Store.

Give the gift of Orange Box.

P.S - Feel free to give me something as well.

Burnout: Paradise PS3 Demo Impressions

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

Courteousy of EA Games

I never purchased a Burnout game, but I have always enjoyed the little time I spent with them over the years. Like fans of the series, the fun of wrecking your car in rush hour in a spectacular display of twisted metal, broken glass and exploding sparks struck a cord with me. Unlike true fans of the series, Burnout games were never more than a few sessions of thrills for me. With the release of Criterion’s Burnout: Paradise demo on the PSN and XBL today, I was curious to see if this installment was worthy of a full price purchase.

After spending an hour or so with demo, the answer short answer is: no. Long answer? Read on.

World of Starcraft or MMO based Lost Vikings anyone?

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

Last month, Blizzard opened a new job posting on it’s website: Game Physics/Collision Programmer - Next-Gen MMO . This led to multiple conversations on the World of Warcraft forums and people had a whole lot of questions about it. Drysc (a Blizzard poster) specified that this was not for a WoW expansion and that it was a for an “unannounced” next-gen MMO.

This led to multiple speculations of fanboys about a World of Starcraft or a persistent world version of The Lost Vikings. I personally think that it’s something totally new. Blizzard is in need of “new” material instead of revisiting old (but good) franchise like Diablo, Starcraft and Warcraft. I guess only time will tell….

Unreal Tournament III On Its Way To Me

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

My copy of Unreal Tournament III for PLAYSTATION 3 is on its way here from BestBuy. ETA: Friday. I’m excited to find out how well it runs and looks on my HDTV. A review of it will probably show up after my Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune one, though. If you are looking for some good thoughts concerning the game, check out 1UP’s review

Street Fighter IV: New Pics and Info Analysis

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

With the new January issue of EGM came a boatload of information regarding Street Fighter IV which can be found and summarized into this post from NeoGAF. Earlier today another collection of screenshots (courteousy of eNe3) were made available to the public. These screenshots are the exact same ones which were in the EGM article. After my initial shock and bewilderment caused by the unorthodox depictions of Ryu and Ken, I noticed two ”obvious” gameplay features:

Now In Canada: XBOX Live! Video Marketplace

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

Better late than never, I guess. The XBOX Live! Video Marketplace just opened up in Canada  offering 30 some odd movies for Canadians to download onto their XBOX 360s. The selection is pretty solid as well with relatively recent movies such as Ocean’s 13, 300 and the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles available. Microsoft will be expanding their library on a monthly basis.

Pricing is considerably cheaper than physical media: 300-440 MS points for standard definition and 440-580 MS points for high definition content. High definition content will most likely be capped at 720p though.

Unfortunately, I don’t see myself using this service any time soon. The primary factors being the 20 GB limit of my XBOX 360 and my adoration of physical media for “True HD” movies.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare PS3 Review

Monday, December 10th, 2007

COD4 PS3 Review Logo

I have played Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on various platforms including the XBOX 360 (multiplayer beta), PC (single player demo) and Nintendo DS (for S&Gs). In the end, the only version I had my eyes on was the PS3 version for the primary reason of free online play since I do not have XBOX Live! Gold. Did it live up to my hopes? Definitely.

Bonus Round - Year In Review Part 1 of 4

Monday, December 10th, 2007

GameTrailers added the first of their four part series titled “Year In Review”. In it, Michael Pachter, N’Gai Croal and GameTrailers’ Editor-in-Chief, Shane Satterfield, share their insight about the console race so far. They started off with Sony and their year. Some good insight and high hopes for a Sony Spring 2008 rebound, but to even suggest that the PS3 will have Wii like sales in 2008 is just absurd.

I just watch it for N’Gai’s insight and the potential “absurd” predictions/suggestions which Pachter may drop. Not a lot of news for me, but it was a solid recap of what Sony did and what they need to do to succeed.

Super Mario Galaxy: Tips, Tricks and Spoilers

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

GameTrailers has an awesome little video of some of the hidden tips and tricks in Super Mario Galaxy. My favorite has got to be the Cosmic Mario Race turbo boost secret. If you care about the hidden surprises in Super Mario Galaxy, I would heed the video’s spoiler warning.
